I haven't played my viola since our Christmas concert last month. It felt slightly odd and unfamiliar opening my case at orchestra last night but, as I was running late, I just grabbed my stuff, pushed my way to the front of the section and sat down. It was only when I came to put my viola under my chin that I realised something wasn't right. I had forgotten to take my bow out of the case. D'oh!

I came to blow my sax once and discovered that as I went to put the mouthpiece in my mouth, I'd forgotten to put a reed on it! It was the only time I'd been anywhere near in tune at the beginning of the rehearsal!

I once took my violin out of its case and couldn't find my bow. I assumed I'd left it at home as I'd left in a bit of a rush for the concert, so I spent the next 15 minutes desperately rosin-ing my second bow. Only to discover, when I shut the case to go on stage, the first bow lying behind it. I must have lifted it out completely without realising. D'oh!
